We make Christmas village houses of real homes and of buildings people describe, and we priced the alternatives to write this.

Personalized can mean three different things here: a store-bought village piece with your family name on it, a copy of a real home, or a building that only exists in the stories your family tells. They cost very different amounts and arrive on very different timelines. This is an honest map of all three, including the two we make and the many we do not.

A real finished house with a porch and balcony, lit from inside on a shelf.

Three things "personalized" can mean

The simplest is a name. Plenty of light-up village houses come with a family name added to a sign or a door. It takes a minute to order and costs little, and the house is still the catalogue's house.

The second is a real place: your own home, the house you grew up in, the grandparents' farmhouse, the first apartment. This is what most people mean, and it is where the price and the wait vary most.

The third is a building no camera can reach anymore, or never could: the church where your parents married before it was torn down, the shop the family ran, the cottage from a story you read every December. That one starts from words rather than a photo.

Every option, with real prices

Prices are typical US figures, gathered from sellers' own pages in October 2026. Custom work is priced by size and complexity everywhere, so read them as ranges.

  • A store-bought light-up house with your family nameabout $15 to $40

The quickest personal touch: a ready-made house with your name on a sign or above the door. Fine as a stocking gift or a place card. The name is yours and the house is not.

  • A craft-store lit village buildingabout $50 to $160

The big craft chains carry whole village lines through the season, often on sale by December. A good way to fill out a village around the pieces that matter, though every one is a catalogue design.

  • A collectible lit building from a major village lineabout $110 to $320

The pieces many family villages are built around, designed to be collected year after year and retired on a schedule. Detailed and well made, and owned by thousands of other families too.

  • A copy of your home from a marketplace makerabout $80 to $350

Small makers on online marketplaces will make your house in painted wood or clay from your photos. Quality and timing vary by seller, and the busiest quote waits of weeks or months before Christmas. Ask two things before paying: when you first see what they will make, and when it ships.

  • An artist's commissionabout $1,000 to $2,500 and up

A one-off piece by a studio artist, priced and scheduled like art. Beautiful when it fits, and best ordered in the summer rather than in December.

  • A paper putz house you build yourselfabout $5 to $30 a kit

The vintage glitter-house tradition, from a kit or a free pattern. Draw your own windows and door onto the walls and it becomes your house. The cheapest option here, and the best one if the making is the point.

Getting a copy of a real home right

One photo does most of the work. Stand across the street in daylight and take the front straight on, with the whole house in frame, roof and front steps included. Trees and parked cars in front cost detail. A listing photo from when the house sold works, and so does an old print photographed flat with your phone.

Sides your photo does not show are finished in a matching style. If you want every side exact, choose the Designer option on the order page and send photos of the back and sides, or plans. A designer models every side, and it ships in 4 to 7 business days.

For a house you no longer have, any photo you can find is worth trying. The preview is free, so the photo can audition before anyone pays.

A real finished house with two chimneys and arched windows, every window lit from inside.

Making it fit the village you already have

Village lines do not share one scale, so measure a building you already own along its longest side and choose the size closest to it. Every size on the order page is listed by its longest side.

For several homes, the childhood house, your own and the grandparents', order each at the same size and they stand together on a mantel or a shelf like one street.

Each house is hollow, with an opening at the back for an LED tealight that lights every window from inside. LED light kit included. Not for real candles. Matte white reads like fresh snow, so it sits comfortably beside painted pieces.

When to order

Ours are made to order and ship in 3 to 5 business days, plus shipping at the speed you choose. The preview is instant, so you can see the house before you decide anything.

Marketplace makers and studio artists fill up first, and many close their Christmas orders weeks ahead. Whoever you order from, ask for their last order date for Christmas delivery before you pay.
